Just Imagining With Barney

Barney was my all-time fave show as a kid. Just ask my parents who still have episodes memorized, took me to meet a *very real* Barney, and consoled me when I saw Barney get beat up on SNL [swipe for vid]. I knew there was a Barney book I loved, but until I saw this cover I couldn’t quite place it.

Barney comes to life because our main character, Lori, is sad and lonely since she is moving from the farm to the city. Honestly, as a kiddo with a LOT of imaginary friends, I probably believed that if I loved my dolls or stuffed animals enough, they can come to life too.

They then take a trip through Lori’s imagination to show her how fabulous her new life will be — or to at least get her to stop crying.

Lori’s mom comes back outside and asks Lori who she’s talking to because she prob was concerned her child may be losing her mind or talking to a stranger that wandered on their farm. She tries to convince her mom that Barney was talking to her [prob how I tried to convince my family that the whole cast of the Wizard of Oz was talking to me].

But obviously being an adult is lame because we become too jaded and a lot of times lose our imagination and creativity.

This week I challenge you to find some type of creativity and wonder in your day-to-day life. I’m not saying you need to talk out loud to Barney [but if that floats your boat, go for it]. For me, this is going to look like writing at least one poem this week because it really helps me jump out of my creative comfort zone. How are you going to use your imagination going this week?
